This striking mid-century–inspired kitchen transformation completely reimagines a once-closed and dated layout within this Juanita, Kirkland Townhouse. The original kitchen was typical of many older homes in the desirable Juanita neighborhood: tucked behind restrictive walls, which severely limited the flow of the main level and obstructed the light coming from the existing window. Heavy, dark countertops and bulky upper cabinets created a cramped, disconnected space. Our expert Kirkland interior design team began this home renovation by strategically removing walls and widening sightlines. This critical structural change instantly allowed the existing window’s light to penetrate deep into the first floor, ensuring the Juanita kitchen became the bright, open, and design-forward centerpiece this Kirkland residence deserved, perfectly setting the stage for an organic modern aesthetic.
Central to the remodel's success is the new, spacious island, which now serves as the home’s main gathering point. This functional hub visually and practically anchors the room, meeting the essential need for entertainment space frequently requested by Juanita Kirkland homeowners. Paired with sculptural wooden barstools and warm amber pendant lighting, the island creates an incredibly welcoming atmosphere ideal for family life and hosting. Byeliminating the previous wall and heavy upper cabinets, the original window nowdramatically floods the space with natural light, which, in turn, beautifullyframes the picturesque greenery characteristic of the area.
